Overview

In this article, we will walk you through how to find contacts with bounced or invalid email addresses in STRINGConnect and remove or suppress them from your list.

What Is a Hard Bounce?

A hard bounce happens when an email you send can't be delivered because the email address doesn't exist, is invalid, or has been permanently closed. Keeping bounced emails on your list can hurt your sender reputation and cause more of your emails to land in spam.

STRINGConnect tracks bounces in two places, and it's important to check both.

Method 1: Filter Your Contact List

This method finds contacts whose email status has already been updated in the system.

  1. Go to Contacts in the left menu
  2. Click Filters at the top of the contact list
  3. Add a filter for Email Status -> is Invalid
  4. Add a second filter for Email DND -> is Enabled (bounced contacts are often automatically set to Do Not Contact for email)
  5. Review the contacts that appear
  6. Select the contacts you want to remove using the checkboxes
  7. Use Bulk Actions to delete them, apply a tag, or update their status

Note: STRINGConnect does not always automatically update a contact's status when they bounce in a specific email campaign. If you don't see the contact you're looking for here, use Method 2 below.
